My work is fuelled in consequence of my own escapist tendencies; the desire to rekindle childish impulses and ultimately deal with issues that concern me.
By composing contrasting elements such as the real and fantasy, the mundane and the fantastic, the beautiful and the grotesque etc, I fervently encourage my audience to engage with my work, be it either on a physical or mental level.
In utilizing properties of a nostalgic, even kitsch nature, I play upon the fragmented memories of my viewers, creating opportunity for uncanny possibilities within the audiences’ imagination, much like that of a child.
As a result I anticipate the viewer to question the authenticity, atmosphere or sheer believability exposed and perhaps more importantly challenge their own beliefs and limitations in the process.
